Your Catholic Voice Foundation has launched an exciting program that offers Catholic parishes the opportunity to receive back 50% of its parishioners donations to Catholic Online School.

Catholic parishes across the country are in distress: Mass attendance is trending downward, church scandals dominate headlines, and the lay faithful have lost the sense of purpose and belonging that should inhere in parish life.

Catholic Church fundraising can sometimes seem like a daunting and challenging task for those responsible for doing it. If you agree, know that you are not alone. There are no two ways about it. Catholic parishes across the U.S. are facing difficulty and Catholic fundraising is at a crossroads.

At the same time, as the expenses of running a modern parish (especially those with a parish school) steadily increase, weekly offertories are trending downward.

To both reinvigorate parishes spiritually and help them thrive financially, something must change.

To be sure, better fundraising is not the panacea for complex problems facing the Catholic Church today. The point is to simply suggest that our approach to fundraising would effectively address the financial concerns of parishes, and over time, have the added benefits of strengthening parishioners’ connection with their parish community, removing barriers between parishioner and pastor, and rekindling a sense of belonging and purpose.

A better approach to Parish Fundraising.

If parishes could get fundraising right, the benefits—both financial and spiritual—would be substantial.

Spiritual care of parishioners would dramatically improve as the parish gets to know them better, and Mass attendance would go up as parishioners feel more valued and connected. Just as building the habit of prayer begets more prayer, giving begets giving and drives further involvement in parish life.

A 'better approach to fundraising' doesn’t require anything fancy or 'innovative' —just the adoption of what other non-profits do in order to be successful. Successful non-profits actively work to bring donors into the life of the organization and cultivate a sense of belonging.

Since parishes can’t compel Mass attendance, and pastors don’t have the option to simply wring their hands and hope things turn around, what should they do?

Take up the habits and principles that animate successful non-profits.  Build personal relationships with contributors. Ask for and encourage joyful giving, don’t assume obligatory offerings. Thank contributors for their generosity, whatever the amount.

We recall the statement made by the Second Vatican Council, "Holy Mother Church must be concerned with the whole of man's life, even the secular part of it insofar as it has a bearing on his heavenly calling. Therefore, she has a role in the progress and development of Education." (Gravissimum Educationis, Preface) Education remains critically important in the formation of the human person by teaching how to live well now so as to be able to live with God for all eternity.

Adopting our practice would not only be financially profitable, but would also make parish fundraising more faithfully Catholic, in that it would proceed from the perspective of communio, honoring parishioners as members of the Body of Christ, strengthening the bonds between them, and cultivating love for Christ and His Church.

The program works in 3 easy steps:

  1. A Catholic parish enrolls in the program for Free, thereby including their name in the YCVF donation benefit registry.

  2. YCVF works with your Catholic parish to promote Catholic Online School to parishioners. Catholic Online School offers thousands of educational courses, instructional videos, prayer support, and spiritual nourishment that deepens the faith and holiness of each parishioner.

  3. Each time a parishioner of that parish donates to Catholic Online School, a YCVF project, 50% of each and every donation will be donated back to your Catholic parish.

The process is completely automated, and parishes will receive donations indefinitely, as long as they participate in this program.

Catholic parishes enrolled in this exciting donation program can benefit in two ways:

  1. Have YCVF help catechize parishioners with Catholic Online School courses acting as supplemental resources.

  2. Automatically receive 50% of all donations from every one of your parishioner who is inspired to give because of the benefits they received from Catholic Online School.

At the moment, Catholic parishes must apply to the waiting list for the program.
